What a save the date needs
Just the essentials: your names, the date, the city or venue, and “formal invitation to follow”. Leave off times and RSVP details, which belong on the invitation. Add your wedding website if you have one.
Send save the dates six to eight months ahead, or eight to twelve months for a destination wedding or a date on a holiday weekend. Only send them to people you are certain to invite.
